Q&A with Boynton Beach strong safety James Brooks

......................................................................................................
Q&A with Palm Beach Gardens running back Landon Carr
How did the high school football season go overall?
“This past high school season went alright, but definitely not how I wanted ideally. I came off a hip injury that took me the summer to recover from and pulled my hamstring the first week of camp, so beginning the season was definitely challenging. However, as a team we made it to the regional finals and really came together during the playoffs. Overall, I’d say the season was successful, but I definitely have a lot more I want to accomplish in my senior year.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“This year I’ve decided to dedicate this off-season to maximizing my potential for the fall. Freshman year I wrestled and sophomore year I played lacrosse. I felt as if both of these decisions ended up slowing down my overall progression as a football player. This is why I have decided to get a speed and agility trainer and hone in on football focused training rather than getting wrapped up in another sport. Many have their input on how I should be playing another sport right now, but everyone will see in the spring the real work I’ve been putting in.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“Though it sounds cliche, I feel my team has a legit chance at making a run for states. I feel we have one of the best 2024 classes in the area and if we could find a couple people to step up, I’m betting on us any day.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“I don’t know exactly who's on our schedule yet. However, based on the past years it’s a good chance we play Atlantic and Pahookee again which I think will be our biggest competition. From what I know, like us, both of those teams have a talented young group coming up like we do.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“I don’t like to put individuals on a pedestal. Football THE true team sport. I feel it doesn’t matter who we go against, if we work as a unit, no individual will beat us. If I had to answer the question however, I’d say the number 7 from Atlantic is probably up there.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Yes I plan on playing football in college.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“San Diego State (Offered), Portland State (Offered), Washington State, Southern Illinois, Bryant, New Hampshire, Valparaiso, Penn, Bethel College, Midwestern State, Saint Anselm, UNLV.”

Q&A with Melbourne offensive guard James Hinds

How did the high school football season go overall?
“My high school football season went great. We had a final record of 9-3, finishing the regular season off with an 8-2 record, with our only losses being against Lake Minneola and Cocoa. We went undefeated in our district and became back-to-back district champs for the first time in a long time in our school's history. In the Playoffs we battled Centennial and won our first-round playoff game, and then took the trip to Vero Beach and played the Vero Beach Indians, unfortunately falling to them ending our season. I am very proud of how our team handled and dominated this season. We were a band of brothers who battled through extreme adversity and came out on top of some very close games. I'm a very competitive player and always want to play my sports for as long as possible each season, so of course my goal was to be in the state championship, and not achieving that was tough. Vero Beach was a very talented team. This year of playing football, with men I call my family, was amazing and I am unbelievably thankful for them, with a special shout out to the seniors who led us through the season, making it such a fun and enjoyable year.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“I am currently in my off-season program with our football team, and participating in track and field events. I arrive at school at 6:30am daily for morning work-outs until 8am. After school on Wednesdays, our lineman and tight ends have ground and speed training at a specialized agility and speed performance center, named Ubrzati. Ubrzati is quite a BIG reason why Brevard can produce such exceptional athletes. State champions Cocoa High School put their athletes through this training and it really translates to the field in measurable ways. I am a thrower for my school's track team. My goal is to make a big increase in my personal records for distances this year and I'm consistently hitting 12 meters in practice. My discus form has improved as well; I'm really excited to see how this season goes starting with my first track meet coming up soon.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I believe the Bulldogs will be a great team next year. We will be a younger team, but contrary to what most of Brevard County believes, we are building good athletes and putting together a good team with great chemistry. We've had kids transfer out, but this is creating an opportunity for new talent. I'm really excited for this year and am ready to play football.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“I feel the toughest competition we will face before playoffs is Cocoa, they are a great team with a 2022 state title and returning offensive line, it will be great competition for us. I'm really excited for that game and can't wait to see how our hard work and chemistry affects the result of that game.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“Personally, I have lots of respect for Cocoas D-line but the single toughest player has to be Samadre Hawkins. His brother Cedrick just went to Ohio State, so talent definitely runs in the family. He's 5 '11' ' and 225lbs, a very solid and strong linebacker who moves with great athleticism. He hits like a semi going downhill with no brakes and was always a pleasure to block last year. He definitely helped me improve my technique and helped me become a better player so I'm thankful and excited to face him and the rest of the Cocoa tigers this Season.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Yes, it is my goal to play football at the college level. My uncle and great uncle both played college football and I am working towards this goal every day.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“Colleges that have been in contact with me for questions, unofficial visits, and showing interest include the following: West Point, Mercer, University of South Florida, University of Arkansas, University of Florida, The Air Force Academy, University of West Florida, Minot State, Pennsylvania University, and Austin Peay.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“The schools that I have had the most contact with have been close in contact between West Point and West Florida. I went on an unofficial visit to West Point last November and had a great time watching the Black Knights win, and I have had contact with them ever since the visit. I was recently invited to Junior Days at University of South Florida and University of West Florida.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“I've been on two unofficial visits to West Point and Mercer University.”

Do you have plans for any trips soon?
“I plan on going to West Florida's Junior Day on March 4th. University of South Florida and Austin Peay are visits I would like to pursue in March or April. I also enjoyed visiting University of Miami last April to tour the facility and watch a practice with Coach Kintigh and a few of my teammates. I am keeping an open mind as I work on my goals.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“l grew up in Michigan so I was, and still am, a big Michigan fan when it comes to college sports.”

Q&A with Flagler Palm Coast linebacker Rodney Hill

How did the high school football season go overall?
“This high school football season went pretty well, we accomplished a lot of things along the journey, but it wasn’t the best season. I think we could have done better, but overall we did good.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“My plans now with sports and workouts are now to get bigger, stronger, and faster than last season.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I feel that my football team would do a lot better this year because we have a lot of returning starters on both sides of the ball. With that being said the returning starters would be able to do a better job of coaching up the underclassmen to do the right things, such as reading the right keys, running the right routes, making the right calls.”

“Our football schedule hasn't come out yet.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“Our football schedule hasn't come out yet.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“N/A.”

......................................................................................................

Q&A with Miami Palmetto wide receiver Javon Reid
How did the high school football season go overall?
“The season was a great season, learned a lot of new things at my new school Miami Palmetto. Season ended [in the] 2nd round of playoffs, definitely not what we expected but overall the season was pretty good.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“My plans now are to just eat, lift and get faster.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“This upcoming fall the team we are building at Miami Palmetto is going to be a very strong, aggressive and competitive team. This season we’re trying to get a ring.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“Honestly I don’t see [anybody] on our schedule because we see everybody as equal but I will definitely be waiting for Christopher Columbus again this season.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“Honestly there’s a lot of tough players in other teams but we’re not worrying about that over here at Miami Palmetto.”

Couple of Charlotte County Football notes

I believe QB Johnny Squitieri has transferred from Manatee high to Port Charlotte high. The move is somewhat surprising, only because it was my understanding Port Charlotte is returning its starting QB from last year? Squitieri split snaps last year at Manatee with another player, and to be completely honest my evaluation on Squitieri was mixed..............in fact he brings a lot of the same attributes to the table as last year's Port Charlotte's starter does.....so will be interesting to see what develops with that situation next year? Im expecting Port Charlotte to be a very very good team next year regardless as they have one of the best RBs in SWFL and other quality skilled talent as well as some quality talent along its OL and DLs!

On the Charlotte Tarpon front, I want to mention a player that will be a rising Junior next season. Michael Villegas, he played DE and TE last year as well as dressed for some Varsity games , but injured his knee early in the season and so his playing time was limited. Thing that caught my eye however were his roster size from last year to my most recent encounter with him from a day or two ago. Last years roster listed him at 6 foot 1 inches tall 180 lbs, the other day when I ran into him and talked to him I want to say he's every bit of 6 foot 4-5 inches tall and maybe 230-240 lbs now! I asked him if he was going to give me a reason to check out some Charlotte games next season, he assured me he would......player to watch out for!

Q&A with Sunlake athlete Ryan Pryce

How did the high school football season go overall?
“The latest season was very tumultuous and didn’t go the way we wanted it to, with everything that happened from coaching changes mid-season to culture problems, it was a bad experience. Although that took place, it’s an experience that has made me step up as a leader and developed me as a person to hold, most importantly the team and especially myself, to a standard every day. At first, it’s disappointing to come off of a 9-1 season at Land O’ Lakes, building my name and reputation in the county and not being able to have that success at Sunlake, but I’ve come to realize that it’s an obstacle that’s been put in front on me and has driven me to be more passionate about everything I do with every hour of every day.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“As of now I’m getting ready to compete in track, last year as a sophomore I was second in the conference for the 400m and fifth in the district running a 53 second 400m. This paired along with the offseason football lifting, conditioning and 7v7.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“At Sunlake we’re manifesting that fact that we will be a successful program next season, we have everything in the right place to win games [such as] the coaches, talent, players. It’s a matter of taking control and upholding the standard we hold ourselves to every day.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“Every game is going to be competitive, no one can be singled out. Taking it week by week and not looking too far ahead is the right mentality to have.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“Once again, I’m confident in my craft, my skill set and athleticism where I know that any obstacle that’s placed in front of me, I’m going to overcome. Whoever I’m lined up against I’d bet the world on myself every time.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“It is my passion and desire to play football at the next level.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“I’ve built so many connections with coaches during this contact period, most with USF but also being in contact with local colleges and some D2 and D3 colleges. Built great connections talking to UMass and FIU as well.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“It’s still a matter of going through my senior year and putting together more films of my play.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“I’ve unofficially visited USF a couple times as well as taking personal campus tours at UF.”

Do you have plans for any trips soon?
“Not currently.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“Most of my family is native from Wisconsin, [I’ve] been a big Badgers fan growing up.”

Q&A with Norland quarterback Ennio Yapoor

How did the high school football season go overall?
“I think we did well, but we definitely fell short of our goal. As a team we grew together and accomplished some good things regardless.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“To continue to grind and get better. I’m focused on bettering myself in different areas of my game to be able to lead my team where we need to go. I am currently not playing other sports and have put all my focus on football and Miami Norland.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“We know what needs to be done to reach our goals. We are hungrier than ever and we know we can compete with any team in our city, state, and even the country.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“We have established a great rivalry with Central and Booker T. We will also have a tough out of town game to start the season.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“That’s a tough question. My focus is really on me and not others. We have a lot of great players in our classification. So if I had to pick 1 it might have to be Blount or Vince.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Yes, football.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“FAU, Akron, Colorado.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“Can’t name one over another.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“I have visited a few, all unofficial.”

Do you have plans for any trips soon?
“I plan to make a few trips over the summer. Definitely Colorado. I will also make sure to visit the local schools.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“No, not really.”

Q&A with Wekiva quarterback Ty’ray Davis

How did the high school football season go overall?
“Last season [we] went 5-6, we fell short on a lot of goals we set up but overall I feel like it’ll only help us learn from our mistakes.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“As far as sports I’m not doing any other one, and I work out 1 time a day, sometimes 2 or 3 on weekends if I don’t have a 7v7 tournament.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“We obviously lost a lot of key pieces but we also gained a lot of key pieces and implemented what was needed to have a successful season. As the QB my goal is to always put my team in the best [position] to win even though sometimes you can’t plan for what you don’t see, but as the leader of my team I take my responsibility very seriously and that includes getting my team to states.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“If we still have the same schedule as the previous season I definitely feel like West Orange will be the toughest team. They lost close to nothing so they have a lot of team chemistry and they went deep in the playoffs last year.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“I really don’t think there’s anybody that will give us some chaos but if I had to choose I think DL Joshua Alexander from Edgewater would be the toughest, he gets to the ball fast and he has a lot of moves to get off O-linemen.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Yes, I do want to play football on the next level and it's always been my dream to go to USC or Ohio state.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“Recently Florida State, USF, Marshall, Duke, Ohio, Cincinnati, and a couple more have been recruiting me.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“I would have to say Florida State, Cincinnati, and USF.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“No.”

Do you have plans for any trips soon?
“I have an unofficial visit to Florida state on March 7th.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
