Mainland 26 Seabreeze 9

If Mainland plays like this next week at Ft Pierce they will lose that ball game. Carry it over for another week and they will be done and out of the playoffs. Good thing the defense played lights out and totally dominated Seabreeze ( 3 field goals ) because the Mainland offense looked like a 5-5 team. Credit the scrappy Sandcrabs and their game preparation. In this ugly win the Bucs O-line couldn't have blown my old a$$ off the line of scrimmage although they towered over little Seabreeze. There's plenty of work for the coaching staff to sure up. I'm certain they will get it done.

Bayshore HS making moves in the right direction

Bayshore has NFL vet Ace Saunders as the head coach, 12-year NFL vet Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, and Brion Carnes who was played QB at Manatee on staff. Ace Saunders is associated with Blitz University which is a very popular 7on7 organization and Manatee Mustangs Youth Football organization. They are out in the community and have the connections to build a competitive team. I also think they have a good chance of having a winning season for years to come. They finished 1-9 last year and have a 5-24 record over the past 3 seasons.

FLORIDA COACHES COALITION working for better coaching pay

Saw a story on WTVT, Channel 13 Tampa, about the Florida Coaches Coalition that will address the state government of the importance of making coaches pay competitive to other states and at least fair to the hours and work they give to high school athletes in the state. The following is a statement page by the Coalition on their website.

Zarephath Academy QB

Zarephath Academy. I have never heard of this team but apparently, they are an independent private school from Jacksonville. Their QB threw for an insane number of yards but will not be in the FHSAA record books because they are an independent school. I'm sure the lack of competition weighed heavily in his success unfortunately. They finished 13-2 on the season and their 2 loses came to a 9-3 IMG white team who beat Bayshore 49-0 but lost to Manatee 44-7. Their other loss was to a 10-2 Union County team that lost to Ft. Meade 34-8. Ft. Meade was the Rural FIT state champion this year which is the FHSAA's smallest classification. Their losing scores were 21-13 to IMG White and 47-14 against Union County. ZPA has an enrollment of 201 students.

The current FHSAA passing single season record is currently held by 2010 QB Quentin Williams from Tampa Jefferson. He threw for 4,451 yards and 56 TD passes. Tampa Jefferson was the 3A state champion that year finishing 15-0.

Florida High School Players in the Super Bowl

Rosters could change some by game time but since I saw an article on highschoolfootballamerica.com I decided to go ahead and post this. Guess which state has the most players on the Super Bowl rosters? Florida. The number is 14. Two of those are from IMG. One is from the state of Georgia and the other from California so you could say if you omit . . . Oh never mind.

The Eagles have 10 and the Chiefs have 4 on their rosters that played their high school careers in the state of Florida.

BREAKDOWN BY STATE
Florida 14
Texas 12
California 10
Georgia 7
Ohio, Virginia (6 each)

Some observations:
*Only 3 went to college at a state school. All 3 went to Florida.
* Cocoa and IMG both have 2 participants.
* If the player transferred in college I listed the school he finished at first .
* I have wondered why Hollywood Brown was called Hollywood. Now we know.
* Except for Sydney Brown and the 2 IMG players all of the remaining players went to a school that was in the same town or very close to where they were born.
* I’m sure you did a double maybe triple take at Sydney Brown’s info. Here is a link with his story. It is worth checking out.

Here's one to file under "Ripley's Believe It or Not"

In today's Mullet Wrapper: SIGNING DAY at Port Charlotte and the Charlotte High Basketball Team / Coaches showed up for a an athlete's signing at PC. This was a 2-sport athlete who transferred there from Charlotte last year to play football, but came back to Charlotte only to play basketball.

The article is pretty well written explaining his thought process. If you can get to the article you might want to read it.
