Union County Assistants Resign After Head Coach Is Dismissed

The most touching scene I witnessed last season was after being defeated by Chiefland in the playoffs the Union County team, fans, band and cheerleaders sang Amazing Grace. Recently, Head Coach Andrew Thomas has been relieved of his duties. The attached article doesn’t give the reason but did say parent complaints was an issue. Five assistants have followed by individually posting their resignations on Facebook.

Summer transfers to Manatee HS

As I become aware of transfers, I'll post here.

1.) From Plametto HS - Zyaire "Boogie" Green (DB, S) 6'1" 185lbs....looks to have possibly had some injury issues last year, played exclusively during the Palmetto Spring against Clearwater Catholic (which Palmetto lost in OT 23-20). Ran a few track events 100 - best time was a 12.15, 200 and the 4x100, also noted a posted 40 time on hudl of 4.58 seconds.

First Academy Coach Will Be Punished

The FHSSA are suspending Head Coach for providing benefits to players that weren’t enrolled at the school when they were provided. Head Coach Jeff Conaway will include a penalty that is similar to Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh when the Wolverine’s were found violating spying rules on other teams. Conaway will be suspended for a year will be allowed to perform all his duties except he will not be allowed to coach at the games. First Academy will have to pay $36,000 in fines. The following are articles further about the violations and penalties.

FLORIDA COACHES COALITION working for better coaching pay

Saw a story on WTVT, Channel 13 Tampa, about the Florida Coaches Coalition that will address the state government of the importance of making coaches pay competitive to other states and at least fair to the hours and work they give to high school athletes in the state. The following is a statement page by the Coalition on their website.

OT, I need a Garand

Not money, rather the M1. It's slow so lets do some trading. I'm trying to get each son one for family range days to move them away from the plastic rifles - they're fun shooters. Wavebb is already on this. I just wish Neutral was still around with his network.

Or, any Demilled ROTC Parade M-1s no matter what condition or how many times they've hit the concrete. The Govt. stopped supplying M1s to ROTC a decade ago because of the political climate. They've been replaced with Daisey Drill rifles. So if your school hasn't destroyed them or pitched them ask (They don't like selling them in country surplus outlets for the same reasons they aren't being used in ROTC programs-public perception). Most types who are on school boards with blow a fuse if they looked closely at the few color guards who still used them and knew what they were (see video and what looks like a Springfield 03-A3).

I'm building an exhibit that I need some Demilled rifles for. It's an historical event being commemorated in 2026. I'll pay cash for all of the above and a finders fee. It's an opportunity for ROTC commanders to use them as a fundraiser for their cadets. Seems better option than storing the obsolete ones that can possibly draw too much negative attention to the program.

GoFan

On a different thread I posted about trying to go the Auburndale spring game. Gofan mistakenly had the game scheduled to take place last Friday at and against Bartow High. I purchased a ticket before driving to Bartow. I arrive and there is no game. I went back on the GoFan app yesterday to find out about a refund. They do not communicate by phone . I searched for a phone number online. Called it and left a message but the automated answering did not identify it as GoFan. I have not received a return phone call. Back to the app. There is a Chat option. It informed me that even though the event was not even scheduled there would be no refund. It then referred me to the hosting school so I should contact them. I called Bartow High. The operator abruptly transferred me to what must be the athletic director. It answered with a beep. Nothing identifying that it was the athletic director. I left a message. I’m not going to spend much more energy on this over $8 so we’ll see if I receive any responses to my voicemails.

Back to GoFan. These companies that do not have a live person to speak to are very frustrating and impersonal. The Chat answered my responses in a nano second so that was not a human being.

Cardinal Mooney, Wow!

After last year’s Kickoff Classic at Bishop Verot, I came away stating that STA was a very complete team. I know it’s just a spring jamboree but I have witnessed another complete team. You can guess by the title of this thread it is Cardinal Mooney. After watching them play Thursday night they remind you of a top tier Jesuit team.

This was the Clearwater High Jamboree played last Thursday that included Mitchell (Pasco) and of course Clearwater. Mooney easily dismantled both teams scoring 4-5 TD’s in each contest. Clearwater was the usual Clearwater. Loaded with talent, maybe more than usual, especially on defense, but that did not phase Mooney. Mitchell is very young this year. Eventual state champ, West Boca Raton, knocked Mitchell out of the playoffs last year. It doesn’t help that that 3 of their top returning skill players did not play. The top RB and top receiver transferred to Clearwater Central Catholic and their other fine WR is recovering from an injury. Clearwater defeated Mitchell in the final half played.

Cardinal Mooney travels to STA for this year’s kickoff classic. I’m not ready to put them in STA’s echelon buy they are currently knocking on the door.

On Friday I was going to support my local team, the Auburndale Bloodhounds. They were scheduled to host Ft. Meade. I get to the Auburndale campus. Nobody was there. Looked at GoFan and it said the Bloodhounds were playing at Bartow so I drove to Bartow. I arrive there and the same thing, no game being played there tonight. I double checked GoFan. The date, time and location was all there. Friday, May 23rd 7pm at Bartow High School. My plan of seeing 16 teams in 9 days came crashing down to 14. So I sighed and drove home.
