Miami Central will not make the playoffs because the FHSAA has ruled that Miami Central will have to forfeit 9 games for playing with an illegal player.

First Academy in Orlando has had to forfeit multiple games but they are appealing the ruling. They will not make the playoffs if their appeal is rejected. Former USF QB, that is an assistant coach, Stephen Moffitt has been suspended for a year. He was the head coach at Leesburg last year. He brought a number of players over to First Academy that played for him at Leesburg.

Did you happen to catch Teddy Bridgewater's (current HC at Miami Northwestern HS), comments about the general coaching mindset in today's current HS environment?

Isn't it common for players to follow their coaches to other schools? Several Palmetto HS players followed their coach to Cardinal Mooney and Cardinal Mooney is currently 9-0. I don't understand what they did wrong.

It is easier to transfer players to private schools although First Academy is paying the price for over doing it.

The key palmetto kid that I was aware of that went to cardinal mooney was Zac Samuel's kid. Were there others?
Manatee nabbed several kids as well from palmetto.
My understanding in as far as rumor mill type stuff, was that last year's HC at Palmetto.... felt having Marino still being in a teaching position at Palmetto, was more than just a minor distraction for the football program. Whether that is still the case I'm not sure. It's obviously not been a issue for Palmetto this year, posting just a single loss this season to a Manatee squad that is perhaps one it's best teams in a number of years.....

I think Palmetto is benefitting from playing a very soft schedule which seems to be something that Riverview should have done. Cardinal Mooney has turned into a powerhouse compared to what they traditionally were. Mooney's Head Coach seems to be selling the program very well, getting the right coaches, and scheduling a competitive schedule. As long as the transfer rules stay how they are, they will continue to prosper. Money talks.

Mooney is a private school, traditional transfer rules really don't apply.....similar to what you see at STA, Chaminade Madonna etc......... if the power structure decides to pour money onto the program, and the head coach stays.....(I believe he is a Mooney alumni), we all know that talent in the Manatee/Sarasota County area is sufficient to put a title contender on the field every year.

In as far as Palmetto goes, they have won despite all the talent drain during the off-season. Their loss to Manatee was probably a game the headcoach wishes he could have had a do over, as Palmetto made a number of mistake to start the game, and before they knew it the were down 35-0. If not for a score in the closing minutes, Manatee would have shut them out. A 9-1 season isn't anything to dismiss, just because of the schedule. Joe's 1st year at Manatee was a 9-1 season anad a district championship, versus a 4-6 team from the year before.
