Let the bidding begin! Now colleges can negotiate with the player and the player’s families with possibly the help of an agent with a baseline of $500,000. Auburn might be informed of the competing schools offers. Does Auburn match these offers? What is the amount that is their ceiling for this player. In our example, Georgia has the highest bid of $900,000 with a week before Signing Day. Even though the player might have been committed to Auburn for over a year, he has a final commitment announcement at his high school a week before Signing Day. The tension mounts as the family sits at a table with their son. The caps on the table are Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina, Miami and Ole Miss. The player begins to speak thanking God, his family and coaches. Then he says he is taking his talents to . . he then stands up without selecting any of the hats on the table. He takes off his jacket to reveal an Ohio State shirt to announce his final decision to attend the University of Ohio State. The room erupts with cheers and sighs of disappointment that he didn’t pick Auburn. It turns out Ohio State came in with a final offer of $1,000,000 with a few perks that include an Escalade.
