Mainland Jr. Adrian Killins, also the starting RB on the football team, matched Charlotte Highs caucasian comet, Sr. Devin Quinn at the 3A state Track and Field championships Saturday on the U. of N. FL campus in Jacksonville. These two young burners put on some show for the good sized crowd under a clear picturesque blue sky. Both won their semi-final heats in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Killins with a 10.55 and a 21.18 clocking compared to Quinns times of 10.56 and 21.29. Quinn, in their only head to head, nipped Killians in a photo finish 10.58 to 10.59 for the 100 meter championship. But in doing so he also injured his hamstring holding off the fast closing Mainland missile. With his "hammy" wrapped and unable to make the 200 final, all he could do was watch as Killins ran a blistering 21.16 to take the crown. Two of Florida's best duking it out on the track. It doesn't get much better then that.... Cocoa's JR. Chauncey Gardner won the 2A 100 & 200 on Friday afternoon ( 10.38 and 21.12 ) . Throw in another 2015 Mainland football opponent in 4A Dr Phillips JR.Alvin Bryant (10.51-2nd, 21.13-1st) and these three schools got guys who can run with any high schooler in America.
