Mainland Jr. Adrian Killins, also the starting RB on the football team, matched Charlotte Highs caucasian comet, Sr. Devin Quinn at the 3A state Track and Field championships Saturday on the U. of N. FL campus in Jacksonville. These two young burners put on some show for the good sized crowd under a clear picturesque blue sky. Both won their semi-final heats in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Killins with a 10.55 and a 21.18 clocking compared to Quinns times of 10.56 and 21.29. Quinn, in their only head to head, nipped Killians in a photo finish 10.58 to 10.59 for the 100 meter championship. But in doing so he also injured his hamstring holding off the fast closing Mainland missile. With his "hammy" wrapped and unable to make the 200 final, all he could do was watch as Killins ran a blistering 21.16 to take the crown. Two of Florida's best duking it out on the track. It doesn't get much better then that.... Cocoa's JR. Chauncey Gardner won the 2A 100 & 200 on Friday afternoon ( 10.38 and 21.12 ) . Throw in another 2015 Mainland football opponent in 4A Dr Phillips JR.Alvin Bryant (10.51-2nd, 21.13-1st) and these three schools got guys who can run with any high schooler in America.

Thanks for the recap Danny. Hated to hear about the hammy. "Caucasian Comet" that's a good one. He did get some people's attention this year.

SK, that kid can fly, enormous upside. Don't be surprised when he's running on TV against the best

Met his dad a few weeks ago nice family. Think he has a full ride to SMU. That's two full rides in two years for our track program, not a common thing.

Dan, was that 10.38 the fastest this year?
Well Peezy, sorta,kinda.... how about the fastest time for the Florida 2015 State Championships. I'll try and simplify it. Most big meets these days have electronic timing devices. The problem is many meets don't also have a wind indicator to measure wind speed and direction. Here lies the start of human judgment, bias, and sometimes incompetence . Chauncey's (Cocoa) fastest 100m clocking that passed all the checks and balances is 10.51. Isiah Taylor (West Broward) has the fastest Florida time of 10.48. #2 is Alvin Bryant (Dr. Phillips) at 10.50. Quinn from Charlotte ran a 10.31 several weeks ago. But there was no wind device at that meet. So that "time"comes with an asterisk or similar qualifying symbol or words. Chauncey's 10.38 had too much tail wind speed to help push him down the track. " NO JAMBUN THE FOLLOWING IS NOT MEANT FOR YOU!" Being a huge track fan, an ex-sprinter (220yd,180yd LH, 440yd, relays) from the dark ages, I have seen many a questionable "wind ruling" go the way of an athlete even with measuring equipment working properly in an early spring time nor eastern gale blowing towards the finish line. We the fans love it, cause we were there to witness it. Problem is it happens all over ..wink..wink. Head to head doesn't lie. The fastest (that day) always wins.

So Silver, does Quinn get the designation of Fastest Tarpon ever? You being the judge of all things Tarpon designates you as the sole determiner of this honor.
