Saw a story on WTVT, Channel 13 Tampa, about the Florida Coaches Coalition that will address the state government of the importance of making coaches pay competitive to other states and at least fair to the hours and work they give to high school athletes in the state. The following is a statement page by the Coalition on their website.

This is a very good article about a recent event put on by the Florida Coaches Coalition. It addressed some of the issues that we have discussed on this board such as coaches pay, transfers, public vs privates, etc. Silver King, your county is mentioned.

I posted a top 20 nationally a week or two ago...i didnt mention this specifically....but that list included as I recalled 6 florida schools in the top 15, all but I was a private school. Georgia on the other hand listed 3 or 4, all were public schools. In fact Georgia top public school teams have no issue typically playing and/or beating Florida top private school's.

I believe a lot of that directly correlates to the amount of financial resources Georgia puts into High School football versus Florida. Put Florida public programs on equal or at least close to equal footing with the financial resources of private schools...I believe it could go a long way to keeping public school talent...in public schools

Hopefully the pay will improve. I think that will assist with the high turnover of coaches in many schools throughout Florida.

UPDATE: The proposed bill to address coaching pay did not make the agenda for Florida’s state government business. Not a real surprise but definitely a disappointment.

This is sad. I have always stated if I had ever run for Superintendent the FIRST agenda on my list of things to do would be go to the school board and demand higher pay for all Coaches in the system! I would show them the FACTS how states like Georgia pays their Coaches and teachers well. I would take it to the community, the board would get fired through elections or they would step up and pay those Coaches. You don't need the state to tell you what school teachers gets paid, this falls on the local boards.

Preach! A solution needs to be found.
Whenever I worked in Information Technology I didn't like the salary they gave me. I felt it was very low balled considering what I was doing. So the HR person told me "if you can submit to me stats showing what others in your position received as in salary I will take it to the Director". Sure enough I did what he suggested, he submitted my stats and I received a 6k raise.

A coach is a coach, a teacher is a teacher no matter what state they live in they all do the same things. Show the truth, publicly put it on display to show how teachers and Coaches in Georgia gets paid very well. I understand that Georgia pays sales taxes on groceries while Florida doesn't but Florida has a lot more $$$ coming in thanks to TOURISM. Thank you to Governor DeSantis for pointing this out a few years ago. Trust me they can pay teachers and coaches alike a lot more money.
Hardee's superintendent gets paid a whooping $105+k a year more than most larger districts. Why? That is WAY too much for a small PO DUNK County like Hardee. I don't mean that is a negative way, I got "Po Dunk" from 2006/07 track when I believe it was Winter Haven who called our guys "Po Dunks from Hardee". Well they ended up burying Winter Haven in track that year and went to state. I just do NOT understand how they are paying Hardee's Superintendent that much money and Gov DeSantis is the one who approves it!

If they can pay that position this much they can pay FLORIDAS Coaches better.

I will testify of my VOLUNTEER experience and watching how long those coaches work mainly in FOOTBALL its basically ALL YEAR LONG. For what? I believe its around $2500 an assistant gets paid extra for football. I believe that was the pay back in 2009ish. I don't know what they are getting today to be honest.

But lets do some numbers with Football for example. I believe they start SPRING practice around April? Lets say for EXAMPLE only, they start April 1. April 1-April 30 is 30 days minus 8 days for weekends =22 days they are Coaching. So we have approximately 22 days out of each month they are Coaching, that's not counting the season going to field house on a Sunday to watch film and plan. So lets just use 22 days shall we. 22 days x say 4 hours per day = 88 hours a month. Now multiply that by 8 months April - December because football starts in the Spring and ends in the winter and summer months they practice. 88x8 = 704 HOURS, I am showing you the bare minimum. Now run the numbers $2500 a year / 704 hours, that is $3.55 cents per hour they are getting paid!

Thank you Coaches you are working your butts off for a measly $3.55 an hour!! I think its time to raise the salaries of ALL Coaches. If a BOOK KEEPER in Hardee was able to steal HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of dollars from Hardee's sports like FOOTBALL funds from ticket sales (story you may not know about) then they surely can pay these Coaches a lot better than what they are getting.

I never truly ran the numbers until now, this is just sad, very sad. You know I think i will be sending a letter to Governor DeSantis about this and show him all these numbers. This isn't just sad its appalling to be honest!
