Over the past few years, I've noticed a lot of games involving district runner-ups against district champions - but this year is very different.

In class 8A, there are only two.

Apopka will travel to West Orange and Palm Beach Gardens travels to Wellington. Other than that - of the 16 first-round games in 8A, 14 district champs won and advanced.

In class 7A it's just the opposite.

Six of the eight second round games involve district winners facing their runner-ups. Only Lakeland-Osceola and East Lake-Braden River feature two teams from different districts.

In 6A only one such game happens - as Navarre takes on Choctawhatchee. 15 of 16 district champions won their first round games.

In 5A, two rematches - Cape Coral and Island Coast tangle, while Spoto takes on Jesuit

Class 4A, only Bolles and Raines are matched up in the second round - albeit as expected. The Bulldogs (runner-ups) and Vikings defeated their counterparts by a combined score of 127-0.

Class 3A is the odd-man out. All eight district champions won in the first round.

Class 2A technically has a runner-up advancing, as Jupiter Christian advances after a forfeit win over Champagnat.

Class 1A has two runner-ups advancing to face each other - as Blountstown and Port St. Joe both won on the road. Union County will rematch Dixie County in the only champion-runner-up match up.

Just some food for thought on this monday.
