First off, I'm working on my Class 3A Playoff Preview. I've received many E-Mails, texts, DM's on facebook and twitter. It's coming.. soon..like..within the next few days soon.
Before the playoffs start on November 13th, November 6th is home to a game that I, for one, can't wait for.
9-0 Tampa Jesuit hosts 8-1 Tampa Catholic.
For those not in the Tampa area, TC vs Jesuit is one of the longest running private school rivalries in the state of Florida. Jesuit currently holds a 15 game winning streak; however, in those 15 wins Tampa Catholic has more often than not, been a much, much more talented team. In fact, in 2007 and 2009 TC played for a state championship and numerous other times was in the final 4, yet even average Jesuit teams found a way to win.
This Tampa Catholic team, from a pure offensive-athletic standpoint, is IMHO easily one of the top 3 in Crusader history. Lead by superstar WRNate Craig-Myers, RB Devan Barrett, WR/RB Bentlee Sanders, WR Darious Corbett, TE Noah Carlson and a very good QB in Austin Sessums. Their offense is a literal who's-who of college prospects.
Jesuit has one of the best running backs you'll see at the high school level in Jr. Malik Davis. He runs behind a very well coached, tough offensive line. Jesuit's defense has been remarkable this year. Tampa Catholic's defense has been a work in progress, but since having Nate Craig and Devan Barrett go both ways- the team D has improved tremendously.
Overall, I'm really excited for this game. Not giving my prediction yet, but high school football is better when both TC and Jesuit are playing at the top of their game going into week 11.
