I will leave this open for debate but I have a break down of what I feel is the best way to display these results...by power ranking. I am almost positive Joe Pinkos would come up with similar data.

First we will break out the Top 10% of teams in each classification and rank them. This will reflect what we witnessed as the possibly being the strongest classifications in 2017:

1) Class 6A - Top 10% avg power ranking of 142.16
2) Class 7A - Top 10% avg power ranking of 139.68
3) Class 8A - Top 10% avg power ranking of 137.89
4) Class 5A - Top 10% avg power ranking of 137.69
5) Class 4A - Top 10% avg power ranking of 135.63
6) Class 3A - Top 10% avg power ranking of 133.83
7) Class 1A - Top 10% avg power ranking of 127.67
8) Class 2A - Top 10% avg power ranking of 116.33

Now we will rank the remaining 90% of teams in each classification:

1) Class 8A - Remaining 90% avg power ranking of 111.34
2) Class 6A - Remaining 90% avg power ranking of 111.07
3) Class 7A - Remaining 90% avg power ranking of 110.17
4) Class 5A - Remaining 90% avg power ranking of 106.85
5) Class 3A - Remaining 90% avg power ranking of 100.77
6) Class 4A - Remaining 90% avg power ranking of 93.90
7) Class 1A - Remaining 90% avg power ranking of 92.99
8) Class 2A - Remaining 90% avg power ranking of 81.28

Lastly we will look at parity. This will reflect the difficulty of winning a championship in each classification, not due to strength but due to balance. Sorted by most difficult to win:

1) Class 8A - (26.55)
2) Class 7A - (29.51)
3) Class 5A - (30.84)
4) Class 6A - (31.09)
5) Class 3A - (33.06)
6) Class 1A - (34.68)
7) Class 2A - (35.05)
8) Class 4A - (41.73)

I saw this over on the Florida hs football board where one of their posters did a ranking of the classifications by taking a average of the number of teams from each class in their rankings over the entire season

8th- 1A (3.5 reps per week average)

7th- 2A (3.875 reps per week average)

6th- 4A (6.125 reps per week average)

5th- 3A (6.375 reps per week average)

4th- 5A (16.25 reps per week average)

3rd- 7A (17.625 reps per week average)

2nd- 6A (19.25 reps per week average)

1st- 8A (26.625 reps per week average)

LAZL,

Based on what your numbers show, could an average 6A team still be average in 8A?
Or would an average 8A team dominate 6A?

Looking at the 90%, my guess is that if we created one giant classification of the 6A-8A teams, the cream would still rise and would not be dominated by 8A.

Outside of Maybe the top 5-10 in 6a the teams in 8a are on par with 6a

No one in 8a would have a good chance of beating the Miami big 3 but once you get 11-30 range 8a has a significant edge in quality teams
