Michigan has given HC Jim Harbaugh a vote of confidence after the Co-vid shortened Big Ten season. Although the Wolverines finished a disappointing 2-4 in 2020, they gave Harbaugh a four year extension which means he'll be in Ann Arbor thru the 2025 season.

Michigan has an overall winning record against OSU, but has fallen on hard times in recent years mainly due to one thing. The inability to recruit Ohio's best blue chip HS players. Ohio kids have been staying home. Love him or hate him, Urban Meyer was one helluva recruiter and the Buckeyes haven't lost a beat since Ryan Day took the reins.

Penn State, another school that has traditionally relied heavily on signing Ohio-bred talent, also ran lean in 2020.

If you stumbled into a bar full of Big Ten coaches on Monday night, you'd probably find a lot of support for Nick Saban's Crimson Tide. From a recruiting standpoint, the last thing any coach in the Big Ten needs is for Ohio State to beat the odds and pull off another upset.

May the best team prevail.

Neutral,

1st - I'd like to let you know I appreciate you contributing to the forum.
2nd - The Ohio State Buckeyes aren't where they're at nationally with regards to football because Urban Meyer had the state of Ohio under lock down in as far as recruiting nor does Ryan Day. So lets take a look at the facts as it relates to football recruiting for The Ohio State Buckeyes

The 2021 class
as its stands after ESD - 6 players or 29% of the total class comes from the state of Ohio. 5 of those 6 are rated in the top 150, of the 13 total players rated in the top 150 nationally thus far in the 2021 class for The Ohio State Buckeyes, 8 actually comes from states outside of Ohio.....( the top 150 standard is typically used by recruiting experts as talent most likely to become All-Americans or play professionally).

The 2020 class - 8 players or 32% of the 25 players signed came from the state of Ohio. Only 1 player of the 8 total players ranked in the top 150 nationally in that class came from the state of Ohio.

The 2019 class - 5 players or 29% of the 17 players signed came from the state of 'Ohio. Only 2 players of the 7 total players ranked in the top 150 nationally came from the state of Ohio.

The 2018 class - 5 players or 19% of the total 26 players signed came from the state of Ohio. Only 3 of the 15 total players ranked in the top 150 nationally, came from the state of Ohio.

The 2017 class - 6 players or 29% of the total 21 players signed came from the state of Ohio. Only 2 of the 13 total players ranked in the top 150 nationally, came from the state of Ohio.

The 2016 class - 10 players or 42% of the total 24 players signed came from the state of Ohio. Only 3 players of the 11 total players ranked in the top 150 nationally came from the state of Ohio.

The 2015 class - 12 players or 46% of the total 26 players signed came from the state of Ohio. Only 4 of the 9 total players ranked in the top 150 nationally came from the state of Ohio.

The 2014 class - 9 players or 39% of the total 23 players signed came from the state of Ohio. Only 4 of the 11 total players ranked on the top 150 nationally came from the state of Ohio.

The 2013 class - 10 players or 43% of the total 23 players signed came from the state of Ohio. Only 3 of the 12 players ranked in the top 150 nationally came from the state of Ohio

The 2012 class - The is Urban's 1st class and 16 players or 64% of the total 25 players signed came from the state of Ohio. 4 players of the 7 players ranked in the top 150 nationally came from the state of Ohio.

The thing that defines the greatness of what Ohio States does in as far as recruiting goes, is the coaching staff's ability to recruit nationally and recruit nationally at incredibly high level, Alabama does this as well......go figure..... right? I didn't mention it went I was breaking down the numbers year by year, but there were several years that Urban brought in as many recruits from Florida and Texas as he did from state of Ohio on at least 2 or 3 recruiting cycles. Those out of state recruits obviously are also making up the greater percentage of the top 150 ranked national players that The Ohio States recruits and signs.

So here's where things stand six years in under Jim Harbaugh at the University of Michigan: 0-5 against Ohio State, 3-3 against Michigan State, 1-4 in bowl games, and 1-8 against top 10 teams. I'm not really sure how or why Harbaugh was able to get an extension based on those numbers. I wouldn't however be a bit surprised based on this vote of confidence he got, that he'll be operating on an extremely short leash next season and if there isn't satisfactory improvement next season that he could be without a job mid-season at some point.

Don't know where or why you went off on the recruiting tangent, in as far as the supposed top flight talent in the state of Ohio? The reality is that in as far as upper tier football talent in the State of Ohio, I'd call it slim pickens at best.

Based on the depth chart released by "Buckeye Extra" on 1/9/2021 we have the following player profile of starters:

On Offense for the Buckeyes: only 3 of the starting 11 come from the talent rich state of Ohio
On Defense for the Buckeyes: only 2 of the starting 11 come from the talent rich state of Ohio

Hell, no wonder Harbaugh isn't recruiting the state Ohio, The damn team from Ohio playing in the national championship game tonight game doesn't even recruit the state.....because there isn't enough talent there to even have 1/2 their starters tonight to come from the state of Ohio.

Go Canes Go!

10 payers from Florida (not counting IMG) playing in the NC tonight, by far the most from any state. Ga next with 6 Ohio is 3rd with 5 Bama is way down to 3.
