Where to start....First half all Edgewater. They did their homework and picked on the Mainland bump and run cornerbacks, who never get deep safety help; and with three Mainland offensive turnovers to boot, the Bucs were down 0-21 at the end of two. Now it was time for the Mainland coaching staff to get it together. Bucs drive quickly after second half kickoff and score. Three and out by a fired up Buc defense, and another speedy score, with less then 3mins off the clock, makes it 14-21. Mainland scores again, and again. Now Bucs 28-21 deep into the 4th quarter. But the Edgewater Eagles aren't finish yet. Two helpful 15yrders against Mainland and a QB roll out flip pass at the line of scrimmage and it's 28-28 with under 5mins to go in the ball game. Mainland drives but on a 4th down pass to the goal-line Eagles intercept and get the ball at their own two. If db had just knocked the pass down instead of the pic it's Edgewater ball at the 35-40yrd line. First down they run off tackle for nothing. No hurry, they're playing for overtime shootout. Clock ticking, slow to the line, HEADCOACH GETS CUTE and gambles on a pass from his own endzone. QB bobbles the ball surrounded by 5-8 Mainland defenders. SAFETY: TWO POINTS, 27 seconds to go. Onside kick from the twenty goes out of bounds. Bucs ball, take a knee,30-28. This first year Edgewater coach has flipped this program to the good. They are loaded with athletes and will give those Orlando schools all they want....On to the Wolfpack of S. Ft. Myers next Friday. If they only run, they're in trouble. If they throw it around, they got a chance. Only a top notch team playing their "A" game can derail this Buccaneer train.....12 down 3 to go....Bucforever

According to FHSAA.org, the third-round game for Mainland next week vs South Fort Myers is at Municipal Stadium in Daytona Beach. Is this correct, and if it is, why is the game a home game for Mainland two years in a row?

It's not a Mainland home game. The FHSAA is wrong just like I alluded to last week. A low pay intern does it Friday nights and the boss fixes it later on.

Dan, that's one heck of a bus ride. Maybe close to 4 hours. Do you think that when two teams are pretty evenly matched that a long bus ride and then having to play in the opponent's stadium is a big disadvantage?

ProSet, in years past Mainland would go down a day early. Don't know if that's the case with current budgetary constraints. With 21 straight years of playoff games this veteran coaching staff, of mostly Mainland, Seabreeze, and Bethune-Cookman grads, has over the years fine tuned the traveling experience. Never will a long bus trip be an excuse for a loss. Us lowly fans might point fingers at the stripe shirts ( See Jambun ), but the coaches wouldn't go there either. Mainland will be ready...guaranteed.
