What has happened?

What has happened to this forum over the last few years? I remember this place was always popping during the season! Even during the offseason there was some good conversations to be had? It's playoff time and there's only a few topics that have responses from today on them. That seems like such a shame. Have people migrated elsewhere? Did they stop following? What's the deal?

Amstaff, actually this year has been the best in the past three or four. The prior two years were literally dead except for Neutral, SK, Peezy and a few others. I think its a combination of migration to other forums, certain posters feeling their regions were not treated fairly, younger folks getting beyond this kind of medium ... etc, etc, etc.

Amstaffnole, (IMO) Don't think it's any one thing, but a combination of many things. People moved on to other interests, jobs, and locations. Others thought it was too cliquish, juvenile, and/or insulting. A few more got chased off by a no nonsense moderator. While others retired their "morphs." (Some posters did multiple characters with different screen names.) They have all but disappeared now. The Rival's national high school football message board is only missing a toe tag. Death could come any day now. You can access it at the top of the page under "Forums."
There is one hot national board started by the guy who ran the big Rival's message board. Dallas Jackson's "NationalHSFootball.com" It's the wild, wild west. Several old timers from here, Canes, OU112, DSouth, PL181, CatScatch, and another Cocoa guy?, DP, and a few more, battle state "homers" from Georgia, Ohio, Texas, New Jersey, California, etc. Everybody has an agenda in pimping their home state. Not uncommon to have 100 post on a single live game thread. Very large informative group of posters on all subjects, football or personal. Check it out. There currently (right now) several Florida threads going on. It is very entertaining. 100's of posts every day, 24/7, no BS. If you are easily insulted by vile written words the site won't be for you.

Than how does your market analysis explain this recent Jersey Phenomena?

It also changes as people's kids move on from playing and teams rise and fall. Over the years there are very few who post when their teams are on a down swing. What is here is very entertaining.

I noticed an enormous drop-off when a certain "moderator", who was an obnoxious boob, was "moderating".

it's always my fault... me and GWB...

Three things happened.

1 - more and more high school sports sections were dedicated and regionalized.
2 - the lack of anyone who actually wanted to run this site - put up with the crap constantly slung at him for trying to maintain a decorum of decency and civility
3 - the lack of anyone interested in actually subscribing to the site.

When I ran the site - we did not have a day that there wasn't fresh content at least twice a day. The front pages constantly changed. we generated expert analysis with former coaches and players - and yet most of you wanted to focus on what WaveBB was doing at the casino.

I actually checked to see how many people were banned by Langston and how many were banned by me - and it would surprise the crap out of you to know that MicahelL tossed far more people than me.

But it's my fault.

Only a few of us have stayed on through moves and our sons graduating and paying dues. The problem I see is that not all areas are represented. Who talks about the Jacksonville area? Mr HiSchool used to do that. What about Tally? Where's GoLincolnTrojans? And the area most quiet is the Miami area.

I have paid my annual membership since 2004 to help keep this site running. Anyone else who comes here frequently should do the same.

Social Media happened. Message boards (at least high school ones) are becoming a relic.

I'm with Choc, the only way North and SW Florida got covered on this site was while all that talking about Wavebbs gambling, etc., was going on, because Fla Varsity sure never covered it. I didn't need to read more about the STAs and Miami North Westerns. As I've always maintained: good football is played throughout the state, not just in Miami / Dade.

Mr. HS, if it wasn't for Wavebb crowd... Wait, before I go on any further, we're finally going to give this group a name. The Slaps aren't the only dysfunctional posters that gets named; From this point on, this group is to be referred to as the "CHAPS" all caps too. YA HEARD ME? ...But without the CHAPS Mr. HS, this site would have been dusted over even when you thought you were working wonders. I realized you had to focus on the larger markets, just don't throw your arms out so fast like you got nailed to a cross because Wavebb likes to hang at the dog track.

While i am not a paying member i would be if there was a little more equal coverage for all classifications and areas. I dont ever remember a single article on the smaller classifications in north central Florida, There are some pretty amazing things going on 1A but it seams that most of the coverage lately has been about STA or the grater Dade county area. Just my point of view but i think if a team averages 51 points a game and put's a running clock on everyone they played in the regular season and the first round against Fort Meade should be news worthy for varsity football website. How about a team that has only lost 2 regular season games in 5 years i think most people that are into high school football would you like to read about that.

When I published - before becoming a head football coach - we always gave love to the small schools - and that didn't result in any increased revenue for paid subscribers. We even created the small school forum to give the smaller schools their own message board...

heck, we tried giving tickets to the finals -- that didn't work..

We tried giving you two years for the price of one ... that didn't work...

I'm sorry this site has deteriorated the way it has. I honestly think it's being run into the ground. Rivals truly doesn't want a high school site - if they did - they'd make it where you couldn't read premium content on the high school site unless you were a subscriber. But every 'premium' article I ever wrote - was easily accessible by the Warchant/ITG etc crowd...

No, No, don't mean that. (Not that there's anything wrong with it).....

blackpopsicle asked the wrong question.......

And we do appreciate that effort to keep it going. The Slaps would've stuck around, but we had to leave for health reasons. Rivals was sick of us......

I've been reading this site for 10 years, I think it's a pretty good board. A little good natured kidding from time to time but nothing wrong with that. It did take three years before I could get an account to log in and post comments, including trying to buy my way on. It isn't as busy as it once was but it is still the first place I check on Friday nights and Saturday mornings to see if anything interesting happened.

I like the mix, enough serious football, most people don't take things too serious when the CHAPS start rolling, and some occasionally blow a gasket. But this site is a little like a hockey team with a couple of enforcers, you come in here puffed up or ripping on people you don't know and its gonna get ugly pretty quick. There's a place for everyone, and if this isn't it, find yours. But remember:

You first - unlike most of those on this board - I'm actually a PAYING subscriber now...
Oh yeah? A buddy of mine wants to know if you can "unban" his old name...he said to tell you that "Willie Stargell" might come back in if the key to that door was left under the mat...but he understands...says he doubts it will happen anyway.
Now...what's all this about picking up a man's wing tab??? That's the kind of news that gets Phac Nam's attention QUICK!

Riverrat1961, there used to be lots of coverage up in North Florida. I am curious to see how 1A will progress. Baker in Okaloosa County is back in the playoffs. It's been a while since they have done really well. They've had to go through Northview who's been very good lately.

I'm rooting for them!

He would get blown out of the water, with his trolling, over on the big boy site. Already Intelligent Don Bosco guys over there, unlike our friend. This uninformed rube thought we were all country bumpkins over here. Live and learn.

Yea bad memories for Trenton vs Baker way back when, they ended our season in the semi final two years in a row.

Also what the hell with this thread? Obviously the original poster hasn't been here for a while... the board is alive

Pipe Dreams ...I have been here a while. I changed names. AmstaffNole=S_typejag19......I've been reading the boards for 12 plus years now. I for one have stopped posting as much over the years but this site has always been in my website daily rotation just to see what's going on. I always enjoyed trying to figure out everyones angles over the year lol.

Mr HiSchool is definitely a little sensitive lol but I do agree that when he was moderating there was fresh content. I swear the stories on the front page never change anymore. Nevertheless I've never really cared about the stories ....The forums are what attracted me here in the first place. I came in right towards the end of the slaps. I had no idea(and really still don't) what that was about however it was very entertaining!

Either way I'm glad to see that this board can make some noise still! 323 views in less than 24 hours! It normally takes like 1 week to get a response....heck i'm still waiting on NHSeaglesmom to respond to my playful shot hahaha.....

There is not enough $ to have stories. I wrote 60+ over 5 years but I have been too busy. We will cover all finals games. The people on thos board could be writers for weekly opinion blurbs.

Stypejag, how you doing buddy? That's why North Fl got covered because of you. You kept them fresh on this Forum also, but I haven;t seen much since you have posted much outside of Choc
