The 30th head football coach of the oldest program in the state will be a familiar face for Pensacola High fans.

Mike Mincy, who served as offensive line coach under former coach Mike Bennett, was named the Tigers new head football coach Thursday afternoon.

Pensacola High principal David Williams and a 12-member committee selected Mincy out of 13 candidates who applied for the vacant position.

"We were looking for someone to keep our program going," Williams said Thursday afternoon. "(Coach Mike) Bennett did an outstanding job of winning and getting into the playoffs. We wanted someone with experience, and he knows about PHS and has an in-depth knowledge of us.

"His plan of action was outstanding, very understandable. And he had a strong respect among other coaches. We've heard from several college coaches that spoke highly of him."

Mincy previously served as the head baseball coach at PHS before leaving for a job in the Jacksonville area at Nease High School. He has served as offensive line coach at Nease

Glad to see they selected from within the program. Hope much future success for PHS!
