Suncoast Football Media Days (Live Steam)

Just got a chance to watch some of this.

Sounds like Lakewood Ranch had a lot of players transfer out recently. Then it was stated they are in a closed district preventing certain types of transfers. Gatorman, what was meant by that exactly?

When it comes to North Port, I wonder how many players on Venice are from the the North Port district. It was an interesting point made that North Port High was built before their

With ODA and Cardinal Mooney winning state championships last year and Booker a very strong playoff run it seems Sarasota’s football traditions have returned. What do you think?

I cant speak with absolute certainty as Im just not close enough to all inner workings of Manatee County any more. Chad indicated to me the last time we communicated there was going to be a talent drain at Palmetto, primarily due to the coaching situation being in a mess....(this was before the headcoach stepped away from the job). Bradley leaving Braden River and taking the Southeast job, has seem some its talent leave as well. Bottom line though is the constant flow of coaches coming and going in Manatee County, compunded with the liberal transfer rules we now have doesnt lend its self to program stability. Chad even indicated that with the static growth rates in Bradenton and the real growth being out near the interstate, its may become necessary to revalute the need for 3 High Schools in the immediate Bradenton area. In my mind one would have to wonder what the viability of Bayshore HS is longterm, if that is in fact being looked at?

Peacock and the machine he has built in Venice............He's been taking the very best from North Port for a long time. Heck I believe there were a few kids from the Port Charlotte area that have played their football at Venice as well. The Tampa area seems to provide QB talent to Venice too.....isn't this like the 3rd year in a row the Tampa Bay area has sent a QB to Venice? Wilder left Venice to transfer to Booker over the summer, only to change his mind and return back to Venice. I watched a freshman play for the Venice JV against Manatee last year, and he looked like a man among boys. Found out later he had already taken snaps for the Venice Varsity during the season, but obviously with the 6 quarter rule........... playing JV and dressing for Varsity games weren't going to be a issue with the 2 backs Venice already had on its Varsity roster last year. North Port is one of the fastest growing areas in the US, if they could get a quailty coach, with a coach having a growing talent pool. Wouldnt too far fetched to see North Port becoming a quality program!

Eventually I see folks growing tired of Peacock pulling all the best talent away, and someone with money having the ear of those who can be bought politically in local government being pushed to put pressure on Peacock to exit coaching at Venice or meeting a demise similar to what Kinnan saw............................

As long as the coach stays at Cardinal Mooney, I see it as a program with the resources to secure long term viabilty. In fact wouldnt that be interesting if the program grow in size, and became something bigger than it is now presently? Booker coach seems to be living close to the edge, in as far as the rules are concerned.........lets see if he reels it in just a bit, or continues on like he has been?

It occurred to me the other day when I went out and bought the new EA sports college football 25 or maybe it was a revelation..........I've been a huge crtic of the Jaquez calls games...........Playing the video game it hit me, Jaquez calls games the way he does is directly linked to a video game influence......(thats me breaking it down from a Psyhcology standpoint) HA! Manatee picked up another couple of kids that may provide some answers at the linebacker position. That OL is going to be a big time problem for them this season however..........its big but also incredibly young......looked terrible against a rebuilding Vanguard team during the spring game. Until it matures and gets stronger..........I see Manatee having a winning season, but a non factor in the playoffs.

I purchased the EA college football 2025 for my grandson. I see college analysts and experts playing it online. What a success it is. It is not hard to connect offensive playcallers getting some ideas from the game. When I coached youth football I would read books to help me be a better coach. Now this video game would definitely be a resource. I can imagine telling my wife that I was doing research lol.

I would not be surprised if Peacock gets calls from schools in other states that can offer him a better paycheck.

Joe did but he turned them down, in part because he found he just didnt care for what it took to be successful at the college level despite the success he had had Eastern Kentucky.....(Division 2 National Champs and runners-up in his 3 years as Offensive coordinator at Eastern Kentucky).

Peacock has grown as a Head coach, but I found him to not be the best play caller or field general as a HBC, during the 2010 to 2015 time frame. What stands out to me more than anything is 2 things, that changed with Peacock. 1.) He brought in some quality assistant coaches and kept all them together for the most part 2.) Recruiting Recruiting Recruiting - There's really been no one in Sarasota County or even Charlotte County at times to challenge these players to stay at their natural schools. Now with the liberal transfer rules, its made things even easier to get them over to Venice. I could see him possibly trying out Georgia, Texas, or Alabama st the HS level, but you saw how well that turned out for Sexy each time.....(he had winning seasons but ZERO state titles) and at the highest levels at each of those states, Peacock would be facing coaches with equal access at resources and talent.

I bought the game for myself, while I do enjoy the game. Some of the upper levels of accomplishment one can achieve, requires an enormous amount have time. I started out at the freshman level..(to get a feel for the game and controls), picked the lowest ranked D-1 school (University of Louisiana-Monroe) and by season 2, won the national championship over UGA 105-3. UGA's over-all team rating was almost 20 points better than ULM. Im ready to move to the next level now........but going to give the game a rest for a spell 1st. I've always had a weakness for video games. I always got along well with the younger crowd....... played in a 3 on 3 "Hoop it Up" tournament in downtown Tampa with a 20's crowd of guys i hung out with, went on a 3 day canoe trip with a bunch 20 year olds before I left for Georgia in 93 (that was a great time! played wiffel ball at night in cow fields using cow patties as bases).....while I was still in Athens and in my 40's, got asked a number of times to participate in weekend video game tournaments, with the younger guys at work. Still played B-ball with UGA students in my late 30's, but encountered for the 1st time in my life.... a number of female co-eds wanting to play too, and because my speed and jumping ability had been declining had begun using a much more physical style of play to compensate......playing against athletic females made that imposible as well very uncomfortable.....but damn some of those young ladys were surprisingly good! Sill did a few things in my 50's (Kick ball, basketbll, Trampoline etc.....) but now at almost 65 video games are about it!

Hello everyone!

Just checking in with you. Haven't posted on here much but I have been lurking lol. Hope all is well.

Watched the rest of the media days.

What stood out to me was the recently new head coaches.

Lemon Bay HC Jason Messing seemed to be very positive and engaging. He has a plan and so far so good. The players seem to be enjoy playing for Coach Messing.

Palmetto HC Eric Sanders came over from Braden River. Got to see him coach since my nephew used to play there. The Palmetto players seem to be happy with the new coaching staff.

Sarasota HC Amp Campbell comes with his Nick Saban pedigree. He credits John Sprague from his days at Riverview. The players made it clear they were very unhappy with last years coaching staff.

Booker’s HC Scottie Littles is attracting talent to the program. Of course, his 6 game recruiting violation suspension won’t help. The players expressed pride in representing the area(Newtown).

I disagree that Manatee will be a nonfactor in the playoffs! Yes the OL is young but it's their defense that's going to be really good! I see them as District Champions and possibly a #2 seed in their region behind STA. Manatee's region is not very strong. Manatee returns two talented DL from last year in DE #55 Ean Johnson-Kelly 280 and DT #56 Alvoid Kennon Jr. 275. Palmetto transfer and Louisville commit LB #43 Caleb Matelau 6'2 230 and Braden River Transfer LB #8 Ronin Danger 6'2 195 take Manatee's LB's to another level. Watch alert is for FS,WR #2 Jok Harris. The 6'3 190 So was outstanding in several summer camps. Offense will be pretty damn good with Sr QB Andrew Heidel returning along with its entire WR group from last year. At RB Sr #1 Kei'shawn Smith returns to the back field. Overall, a very talented football team. Look forward to seeing then grow as the season progresses!

To be honest, hadnt even looked at the new district or region alignment until this morning after reading your post. Laz has Manatee as the preseason favorite to take region 3, and to be honest the region on the whole is pretty weak. So yes its completely plausible Manatee come playoff time, plays until the semi-finals to face its old nemesis STA. Last time that happen, watched Dallas Turner and Tyreak Sapp be a 2 man wreaking crew for what I thought was a better than average Manatee offense.

Intrigued to see how Manatee uses Matelau and Danger, I dont believe they played in the Spring game? Manatee had no enforcers at the LB position last year, and the MLB at times completely disappeared. The DE play at times last was also average at best. This past spring, the defense was gashed big time by a rebuilding Vanguard offense, and the offense other than some long pass plays was a non factor, if not for Vanguad turnovers at the begining of the game...giving Manatee a short field, and defenseive turnover for a TD, the score for that spring game would have looked very bad for Manatee!

Manatee's opponent tonight is somewhat of a mystery for me. Looks like Hillsbourgh may have lost some talent via transfer during the off season, as the roster on Maxpreps shows only 33 players with numbered jersery's and then a number of underclassmen without numbers? Im expecting Manatee to win, and the coaching staff getting every opportunity to play a number of players. Manatee to me in order to be successful on offense this season, has to be able to use its QB as more than just a passer. I noted in the off-season the Army coaching staff, highlighting a number of QB read option plays for the Manatee QB on X. Manatee needs its QB to operate in the way it did, when Cord Sandberg was at Manatee. Its just not going to be able to beat better teams on the line of scrimage with this OL group presently. Defensively I want to see how the staff utilizes its talent.........It be nice if Matelau and Danger bring some attitude to the defense, that rubs off on the others.

Well, I think we’re gonna start off disagreeing. Manatee’s offensive line is going to be fine as the season goes. They’re young and big and strong. Just need some experience. Manatee’s skill players as good as anybody around. They’re going to move the football and they’re going to score a lot of points! Defense did not have several key players during that Vanguard game actually Manatee was out eight players that are starters. Manatee will be without one of their linebackers tonight I think number #43. if it was a regular season game, he would play they’re holding him out plus a couple other players aren’t playing that are starters. It’s gonna be a fun year. We’ll see how things go, Manatee has a pretty tough schedule. Will be interesting how they do tonight against Hillsborough……

John almost all of the guys on the OL were Playing JV last year. Smith's younger brother made a lot of big plays based entirely on his elusiveness. Yes they're big, but I saw no indication of exceptional strenght.....(plenty of time for that to happen, but it takes time), then the left tackle #67 i believe....last year couldn't handle pass blocking. It got so bad that eventually they put #55 Ean Jounson-Kelley in at LT. So your looking a group of Sophs and junior making up the core of the OL this year.

Manatee manhandled a not very good Hillsborough team 40-0 in its Kickoff Classic. Next week they open the season at home against Lake Minneola. Manatee's defense was in the Terriers back field all night sacking their QB 7 times and making 12 or more tackles for losses. Manatee sat all their starter starting the second half as they coasted. The Defense was without LB Caleb Matelau, the Allstate Louisville commit who was resting a sore shoulder. Next week it's for real!!

Left at halftime was 26-0, as I couldn't imagine Hillborough HS being anything other than the inept team I wittnessed in the 1st half. The 1st half they pretty much gifted Manatee a short field on every offemsive series of the 1st half. This one wasn't going to show me anything about Manatee heading into the regular season, as I was pretty sure the Manatee's starters weren't going to playing the 2nd half anyways. Unfortunately next week's operner against Lake Minneola is probably going to be a repeat of what this game looked like. Lake Minneola was devestated by player tranfers, as well as its headcoach leaving, then the hired coach legt after like 4 days forcing Lake Minneola to cancel its entire spring at that point. This Lake Minneola team will be a shell of the team it could have been.
