I watched the Sarasota vs Riverview game yesterday and Sarasota has a lot of potential. They have a very young team that can make some noise in a couple years if they can stay together which may be the most difficult part. The were coached up well and simply lacked the players needed to compete. I was surprised because I didn't think they would show or have any potential. Hopefully, Coach Campbell will stay and complete the process.

Back in the 80's Coach Whitehurst and Coach Sprague had no issues putting championship caliber teams on the field, year after year. In fact as I recall in 1985, Manatee, Sarasota, and Riverview could have all easily played for a state title but back then only the district winner advanced and after the regular season concluded the 3 teams had to duke it out in a Kansas City Tiebreaker. Manatee would advance and then the same night Manatee played Pensacola Woodham for the 5A state title, Southeast was playing Penscola Escambia cross town for the 4A state title. Think about that for a second.....Riverview and Sarasota were every bit as good and then you had Southeast playing for a State 4A title, That's a boat load of talent spread across 4 teams in the immediate area! I believe the talent is still there, just takes the right coaches to guide & groom it.

I hope you are right Fla2014. It’s been since the mid 2000’s since we have been relevant. If they can keep their good players away from Mooney and Venice it could happen.
