After a 45 minute lightning delay the Palm Beach Central Broncos met the Lakewood Spartans which turned out to a pleasantly cooler than normal evening. According to the way-too-early rankings only 4 spots separated these 2 teams. It didn’t have the stature of Naples @ Venice but for us Tampans it shaved off an hour of driving time.
The always talented but perennially underachieving Spartans have a QB that is committed to Virginia (Anthony Colandrea), a receiver committed to Pitt and a DE named Isaiah Nixon committed to the Gators. They are all seniors.
For what it is worth, the 3 games I’ve attended each had a Florida Gator commit (2) or one heavy lean. Two DB’s plus Nixon.
Palm Beach Central did not have a Gator commit but they did have the nephew of a former UF player and current Washington Commander Jon Bostic. His name is Justin Bostic. He is a senior and not currently committed. Bostic was probably the best player in the game. He made some really nice PBU’s and tackles but what really made him standout was his two TD’s on 2 interceptions. The first was a 100 yard return and his 2nd was about an 80 yarder that sealed the victory for the Broncos.
A special teams breakdown by Lakewood caused their players to go to the halftime locker room with a really bad taste in their mouths. With the score at 14-7 with only 7.7 seconds left in the 1st half the Spartans were forced to punt from deep in their own territory. This resulted in disaster when PBC’s returner crossed the goal line as the first half buzzer went off.
You can’t hang the loss on Lakewood’s defense. They only gave up one TD.
Their Virginia commit QB can sling it and has good mobility. College coaching could fine tune him to be a better than solid player for the Cavaliers.
I would definitely keep your eye on Palm Beach Central. Their QB is a 4 year starter and they have plenty of quality skill players. The Bronco defense attacked all night.
