In today's Mullet Wrapper: SIGNING DAY at Port Charlotte and the Charlotte High Basketball Team / Coaches showed up for a an athlete's signing at PC. This was a 2-sport athlete who transferred there from Charlotte last year to play football, but came back to Charlotte only to play basketball.

The article is pretty well written explaining his thought process. If you can get to the article you might want to read it.

Talk amongst yourselves!

Unfortunately, this is a sign of the times and current state of high school sports.

So is this all made possible via state rules, local school board rules....what? I didn't go last night because the regular season game was such a blow out in the Trapons favor, Manatee played it much closer this time but still ended up losing. Tarps move I'm assuming to face Palmetto for the district title.

This is possible via state rules. I've seen players play for one school for football and another school for baseball. Last year, a player from Booker played against Cardinal Mooney, transferred to Riverview and played against Mooney again. The student played against Cardinal Mooney football team twice in the same season.

Someone help me understand that, particularly if/when NIL gets going. Could a team conceivably load up on key players from other schools for an important late season game with playoff/ homefield implications?

The NCAA and FHSAA are simply destroying the once great American game of football. Thank God I played when I did.

This situation that SK is referring to seems not to be something that was master minded by parents and/or coaches. It is somewhat of a hardship situation. I was told he plays very hard and is a fan favorite.

Not questioning his effort at all, he's a great athlete. I'm just not sure a competing team has ever shown up at another school's signing day - has that happened before?

I'm asking if its a possibility to load a team for a playoff run with the best from other schools anywhere in the state whose prospect for a deep run isn't as great. In Charlotte County it hasn't made a difference especially since this was supposedly one of Port Charlotte's best teams ever and they only got so far.

If is the case, and even though schools have been doing some form of this for decades (recruiting, or players flocking to the loaded team during specific years), the Private schools won't be the boogeymen anymore than well placed (Miami/Tampa/Orlando) public schools that can do it legally.

And here's what I'm getting out. Tell me how this "have and have not" rule, will not begin to reduce the number of football programs around the state.

I totally agree with you SK. Just moving so you play a different sport for another school should not be allowed. If you have a special case that should be considered. Moving from school to the next during the season should never be allowed except for very special circumstances.
