Was this a good hire for them? Will he be able to lure recruits from the Miami area?

He was hired a a linebacker coach was is a major downgrade for a former head coach. But, based on what I heard on the "30 for 30" ESPN special, he was a good DC. Hope he can continue the excellent defense we've seen for years at Florida.

He might very well have been riding out his UM contract. His buyout could have been for four more years, normal, then with a requirement of no HBC or Coordinator, for the length of the buyout.

He took the first year off, I believe, then coached LB's at TCU then Arkansas. Seems like he did a great job at Arkansas.

BTW, TCU just scored again.

Yes, Choctaw Fan, this is a very good hire and he should be able to recruit the Miami area well. He recruited 2 of Arkansas' best players from the 305 area, Alex Cobb and Denver Kirkland. He was a fantastic defensive coordinator for the Canes with many future NFL players he had recruited. Good move for the Gators.

On paper, the coaching staff that Coach Mac is putting together looks really good.

OC/QB Doug Nussmeier
DC Geoff Collins
RB-
WR-
OL-Mike Summers (being retained according to some online sources).
DL-
LB Randy Shannon
DB Travaris Robinson (Still waiting on confirmation)
Special Teams

The difference between Muschamp and Coach Mac is that Mac has connections and understands how to build a staff. Muschamp put together a better staff in his 4th year, but his first staff was horrible. I just believe that "pro" coaches and "college" coaches have different skill sets and Muschamp brought in "pro" coaches, not college coaches.

Not sure who else he is targeting, but I would like to keep Chris Leak, if only because he can talk a good game.

Perhaps Sexy Beast is bored of winning high school state championships and will try to jump to UF. :)

I'd like him to keep Chris Leak, also. He didn't have amazing skills but still had great success. The Gators will have young QBs (now that Driskel is considering a transfer) and will need a coach they can relate to and who will show them how to handle the pressure of playing in the SEC.
