What justification did the commissioner give for back tracking on his statement that they didn't need a championship game in their league-- they would have one champion and it would be decided on the field during the regular season since everyone played each other-- then they come out with co-champs? I'm sure he had an explanation , but I must have missed it--- with OSU blowing out UW, I don't think it mattered, but if that game was close and the Big 12 had a single champion-- I think Baylor might have slipped in to the playoffs.

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby told ESPN's Rece Davis: "It's clear that we were penalized for not having a postseason championship game. It would have been nice to have been told that ahead of time."

"We have to weigh whether this is substantial enough to add institutions. ... It's certainly a major consideration."

There you have it. Maybe we will have a Florida team in the BIG12. UCF has been mentioned in the discussion.

I think the real issue was that the Big 12 did not want to add two more teams and share what little bowl money they get. The network deal Texas has takes a lot of their TV revenue.

Doesn't the rule state you must have 6 teams in each division?

Big 12 Conference teams also have an advantage (or disadvantage, depending how you look at it) that every other conference doesn't. Three bye weeks during the regular season. They need to expand.

I'd guess that the Big 12 will expand, and they will head south and east to do so. UCF is a very strong possibility. I'd throw Cincy in the mix too.

If I'm the Big 12, I start looking at being the first to 16 teams. BYU, USF, East Carolina and Boise State (just throwing names out there) are teams to consider in addition to the two already mentioned above. I doubt they will be able to poach anyone from the other big conferences.

The committee sent a major message with their decision to exclude the Big 12 this year.

I think the Big12 should add 4 teams and change name (so should Big10 but get to it first) to Big14.

Add UCF, USF (Florida market, rivalry), Cincy (another good market, strong basketball along with good football), Memphis (also another good market with strong basketball and improving football). Location of these four keep travel cost down as they are nearby and all have a major airport.

East Division:

West Virginia, USF, UCF, Cincy, Memphis, Baylor, Texas

West Division:

TCU, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, OSU, ISU, Kansas, Kansas State,

I don't think the Big12 wants any part of USF since they are closer to being classified as a FCS team due to bad attendance than joining a big conference.

USF's program is in need of an overhaul for sure, but it is still a large university in a major metro area, which combined with UCF makes one of the largest TV markets in the nation. They have the potential, they need the leadership and vision.

Venue and TV rating are some things they will look at and USF has none of the above. Taggart has completed the drowning of the football program. Hopefully they will rebound after he is fired either during or after the 2015 season.

You will see an improved USF next season. Doubt what Taggart is doing if you want to. He inherited an absolute mess and the team that played this season was very young. He knows what he is doing.

I can see the Big 12 passing on USF because they would already get the TV sets by adding UCF.

I realize that he inherited a mess, but it only got worse. That is why I said that he completed the drowning. I could be wrong and hope that I am, but I don't see it going anywhere but down. It seems to me that he has a problem with making a decision and sticking with it. Which means he makes bad decisions!

We will see.

Just read that Coach Kinnan is expected to join Taggart at USF. I think that will be interesting.

Willie needs to make a splash with his OC and DC hires!!!! Lets hope he does. What is Joe going to coach DBs or TEs?

I see it differently. Taggart was 2-10 last year, his first season, and 4-8 this year. Its an improvement, no matter how small. George O'Leary inherited a mess too and was 0-11 his first season with UCF and had roller coaster seasons for a while. Whether of not Taggart will get them turned around remains to be seen but IMHO, 6-6 next year would be a success all things considered.

Joe will either be the OC or an "offensive specialist". Whatever that means. Taggart likely wants to call plays so he is probably going to name himself the OC. USF needs an OL coach as well.

Also, USF returns 75% of its production on defense and 100% on offense. 14 starters return. They will probably be a bowl team next year.

Taggart was successful at WKU and he will be at USF as well.
